UAE’s Lifeline to Lebanon: 18th Aid Plane Delivers Vital Medical Supplies Amidst Crisis

  The United Arab Emirates has dispatched its 18th aid aircraft carrying 40 tonnes of essential medical supplies to Lebanon as part of the “UAE Stands with Lebanon” campaign. This ongoing initiative, launched in early October, aims to provide critical food, medical, and shelter supplies to the Lebanese population, who continue to face severe hardships due to ongoing conflict. In close collaboration with international organizations such as the World Health Organization (WHO), the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), UAE humanitarian organizations are playing a pivotal role in delivering life-saving aid to Lebanon’s vulnerable communities. Dubai Metro used by more than two billion passengers since its launch

Dubai Metro has carried over two billion passengers since its launch on September 9, 2009, according to a report by Dubai Media Office.

Dubai Metro's red line has transported 1.34 billion passengers since its launch. The green line served over 673 million people. Dubai Media Office said on Sunday that it maintained a punctuality rate of 99.7 per cent in 2022. Reportedly, over 616,000 passengers used the metro daily in 2022.

Last year, over 621 million journeys were made on Dubai public transport. Expo 2020 Dubai took place in 2022. The event attracted a large number of visitors from various countries. Visitors used public transport to get to Expo 2020 Dubai, which concluded on March 31 last year.

Reportedly, Mattar Al Tayer, the Roads and Transport Authority's director general and chairman said, “Statistics reveal a consistent rise in Dubai Metro ridership since the start of the service in September 2009. In 2022, the Dubai Metro set a new record and the highest since its launch by serving 225.142 million riders.”

Dubai metro covers 89.3km and connects 53 stations. It has 129 trains, serving the Red and Green lines. It is owned by the Roads & Transport Authority in the UAE. The metro is operated by the Keolis-MHI, which is a consortium of the France-based company Keolis and the Japanese Company MHI.

According to the Dubai Statistics Centre's live population counter, Dubai’s population crossed 3.5 million in April last year. Subsequently, Dubai witnessed an increase in public transport. It also saw a robust recovery from the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Museum of the Future, an exhibition event, also attracted one million visitors in its first year. It was opened in February 2022. Dubai Metro was used by the majority of tourists.

Mattar Al Tayer said, “Dubai Metro attracted the largest percentage of public transport. The share of public buses reached 25%.”
